The Best Travel Apps to use When Going Travelling

Going travelling? Maybe your just jetting away for a few days? Whatever it is your doing or where ever your going- make sure you check out these amazing travel apps to help you on your way. When I went travelling last year on my 5 month trip, there was several travel apps that helped me in lots of different ways. Whether it be navigating my way round or finding things to do, these apps definitely made my trip better so keep reading to see my top 6 apps to use when going abroad!

 The Best Travel Apps

Maps me

I would 100% say that we used this app the most! Being abroad and using your data (even with the new Europe data roaming plan) can make things pretty expensive when trying to navigate around. However, this app completely resolves this issue! I don't know exactly how it works, but it's amazing! By downloading different areas on the app whilst you have wifi, you can then navigate yourself around without an internet connection and the GPS still tracks you even if you don't have Internet?!?! How you ask? God knows! But because of the downloaded map, all the roads show up on your phone and as if by magic it works out where you are! Obviously downloading lots of maps takes up space, so once you've moved on to your next location, just simply delete the old one and start downloading you next map! (preferably before you get there)

Visit a city

This app was also pretty useful for finding cool things to do where we were. You simply type in where you are (doesn't have to be a city) and it comes up with a ton of ideas and things to do from adventurous activities to family days out to sightseeing! So whatever your up to, I bet this app has an idea for you!

Skype

If you or your family and friends don't have an iPhone, you obviously can't use FaceTime, which is why we often used Skype! My boyfriends mum has a Samsung phone, so therefore we couldn't FaceTime so Skype came in handy to keep in touch! Being away for a long trip meant that obviously we missed our loved ones back home, so we loved a regular catch up and to see their smiling faces!

Trover

This app is super cool! It's basically Instagram, but for travelling! People just share their travelling photos and upload them to their account and you can discover some truly beautiful places! Someone told me about this app towards the end of my trip, so I didn't really use it, but after looking at it when I got home, I know for sure I will use it next time!

AirBnB

Now I am sure ALL of you have heard of this app and probably have even used it! AirBnB offers a great alternative to shared accommodation and dirty hostel bathrooms. It allows you to stay in peoples own homes with your own room which makes it much more homely! We personally didn't use this as we found the price a little bit more than hostels and as we were on a budget, we felt we couldn't afford it. However if you have extra cash to spare I would definitely say go for it as it is such a great idea both for travelers and also the home owners!

Kiwi Experience

If you happen to be travelling down under to New Zealand, one of the ways to get around is the Kiwi Experience bus! We originally was going to hire a camper van, however New Zealand was the last stop on our travels and we were running out of money and it was too expensive  🙁 But in the end we went into sta travel shop and picked up a Kiwi Experience bus ticket as they were selling for for half price. The Kiwi Experience is great! You get to choose whatever pass you want whether you want to go to the North Island, South Island, both or any extra day trips, you can hop on and off and pick the dates you want to travel! You can use the app without internet (which are the best kind of apps when you're travelling) and it shows you all the overnight stops, short stop offs, extra available activities and even some free stuff to do! We found it super helpful when trying to budget and work out which activities we could afford to do!

So did you recognise any of these apps? Maybe next time you jet off you could try out one you haven't used before. Let me know in the comments below if any of these have been helpful or maybe if you have anymore suggestions for more apps. Hope you enjoyed the read and learnt something new!

Much love guys!
